D-DAY BEACHES
I decide to photograph the beaches of the Normandy Landings that, on June 6, 1944 (D-Day), saw the unloading of more than 150,000 men with the onset of “Operation Overload” which brought the liberation of Europe from Nazism. The landing occurred on the five beaches named Utah, Omaha, Gold, Sword and Juno extending 80 km on the coastline east of Cherbourg. I portray these beaches, normally inundated with sea and history loving tourists, in total human absence. Diffused light, gray skies and the lack of shadows render these sites limitless. A territory of borders and boundaries, between land and sea, that are not only geographical but also historic. 

Decido di fotografare le spiagge dello Sbarco in Normandia che il 6 Giugno del 1944 (D-Day) videro sbarcare oltre 150.000 uomini con l’avvio dell’operazione “Overlord” che portó alla liberazione dell’Europa dal Nazismo. Lo sbarco avvenne su cinque spiagge denominate Utah, Omaha, Gold, Sword e Juno su un tratto costiero di circa 80 Km a est di Cherbourg. Ritraggo queste spiagge, solitamente affollate di turisti amanti del mare e della storia, in una totale assenza umana. Luce diffusa, cielo grigio chiaro e mancanza di ombre rendono questi luoghi sconfinati. Un territorio di frontiera tra terra e mare, confine non solo geografico ma anche storico.
